Jump Rope For Heart on Maori TV!

Yesterday, we had Jump Rope For Heart at our school. We were very lucky to have representatives from the National Heart Foundation, as well as Maori TV, visit in the morning. Here is the clip from Te Kāea, 7 September, 2015. The Jump Rope For Heart segment goes from 13.26 to 15.26.

Rubbish Billboard

Over the last half of this term, we have been doing a technology unit based around Rubbish and Recycling.  As part of this unit, every student in our class had to design a billboard that encouraged people to pick up rubbish around our school.

The winning design (as voted by our class) belonged to Teesha and Isabel.  With help from Makaylah (and some great tips from Miss Magaoa), they transferred their design onto a large piece of board.  This will eventually be displayed somewhere around our school and will hopefully help to alleviate our ongoing rubbish issue.

Here are some photos of their journey.

Great work, girls!

Assembly Item - For Real!

Here's a video of our assembly item from this afternoon.  Compare this one with our Friday practice one - do you notice any differences?  Feel free to comment - we'd love to get some feedback!

Room 6 has been busy this week practising their assembly item for Monday's school assembly.  Hopefully, it sounds as good on Monday as it does in this practice we did today!

What Makes a Good Mathematician?

One month ago, we came up with a list of things that we thought made a good mathematician.

After a month of doing our 'new' maths programme, I asked our class the same question.  Have a look at the wildly different responses!  Ask your child why the responses are so different.  How has their thinking changed in a month and why?

More Maths!

I know, I know - I promise our next post will be about something other than maths!

Anyway, today we saw some sensational group work during maths time.  Terei's group did an amazing job of explaining the way they worked out their problem.  Have a look at the video from the start of their group's presentation and the final screenshot of their finished work.

There is some super maths happening in Room 6!

Maths Feedback on Padlet

Our teachers are learning a whole new way of teaching maths!  Today, Mr Dawson ran his first session using the new approach - it was kind of fun, kind of scary, but most of all, it was numeriffic!

After maths, we experimented with Padlet, giving feedback to Mr Dawson about maths.  It was a bit hard to do it on the tablets, but some motivated students decided to do it on the class computers at lunchtime!

We love maths!  Ok, well, mainly Mr Dawson loves maths.  But the rest of us are catching on.  :)

Welcome to Room 6, 2015! We are a Year 7-8 class and our teacher is Mr Dawson. We are going to have a sensational year and many of us have already set goals of winning trophies at the end of year Senior Prizegiving. Here are a couple of photos of us hard at work - and it's only the third day of school!
